In Your Honor, I Would Die Tonight...

In Your Honor

Mexican Promo DVD

This promo DVD we are talking about here, is quite a rare promo item. Released to the Mexican market to promote the In Your Honor album. My copy has a Tower Records sticker on it, so that would indicatie it was an exclusive Tower records givaway back then.

What makes it interesting for a collector, is that the sleeves are all numbered (we all get crazy when stuff is numbered don’t we...). My copy has the number #82. So that’s a relatively low number, so even more collectible. The copy that is listed on Discogs, has number #927, so that indicates that there were probably a thousand or more pressed.

The thing about this release that is strange to me, is that there are so few out there in the hands of collectors. Just look at the numbers on Discogs (2 people have this). the fact that probably a thousand were made, makes it weird not more have fallen in the hands of my fellow collectors. Oh well.....makes my copy even more valuable ;-)

The tracklist on the DVD is also a bit odd. It just seems a bit random. 5 video’s and one audio track. Why not just 6 video’s? But then again, promoters have the tendicy to create weird stuff.

So.. on to the info.

Tracklist:

1 Times Like These (Acoustic Video)
2 Learn To Fly
3 Low (Video)
4 All My Life (Video 5.1 Mix)
5 Times Like These (Video)
6 Best Of You (Video)

There’s a place I love to go...

The World Premiere of..
Godzilla The Album
(hosted by Dave Grohl)

Hi there! I’m back from my writers block...(or my too busy life as you could also describe it...)

It's a small little blog this time, but I'll promise to do better in the future.

Now. On with it....

If only one good thing came from the Godzilla movie, it’s the song A320.

Let’s face it. What a crappy movie was that! Thank god for a good soundtrack. If you haven’t bought it already, go out and do so. This Foo Fighters song alone is worth your money. trust me!

It’s one of these great b-sides (if you can really call it that, considering it’s not the actual b-side of a single) that hasn’t been published on any other release. The release I’m talking about here, isn’t really the actual Godzilla soundtrack, but a World premiere promo cd. It has Dave Grohl as a host on it, doing some interviews/ conversations and introducing the songs and bands that are on the actual soundtrack.

It’s quite the rare promo. You see it pop up once in a while, but from the hardcore Foo Fighters collectors, there are actually only three people who have it (at least the ones who have it listed on Discogs). It's just a factory printed cd with artwork. No other artwork came with it. It was meant for radio stations to broadcast, and a lot of them did so between May 15th an 17th of 1998.

The song A320 is one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs, and a long time fan favorite also. It’s a real shame it doesn’t get played live much (read: almost never).
Notable about the recording of this song, is that it’s the first Foo Fighters song that was recorded with their now longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins. Also Petra Haden, who also became a Foo Fighter in the later future is heard on this track, playing the violin. And last but not least, it's one of the few tracks they recorded with Franz Stahl playing guitar. A little bit of Foo history this track is (this last sentence should be pronounced in the voice of Master Yoda)
It was recorded at Sound City Studio’s, in California. Yes, the same studio Dave Grohl is now making a documentary on. Which by the way I can wait to see. Check out the website to his new documentary here:

Can you hear me...

In Your Honor Instrumentals
US 2 CD
It’s been a while, but here’s another release for you.
This is an interesting one. At the time this cd set was auctioned on e-bay, I actually lost the auction. Afterwards it appeared that I lost the auction to a fellow Foo collector I know from the official Foo Fighters postboard. A lot of you probably also know his website Foo Fighters Live. If you don’t, you must check it out via my links or via this direct link over here:
Cough....If you join his forum, and look closely, you might also find great quality audio rips of these instrumental versions....Cough...
At the time he was a little short on cash, so we made a deal soon afterwards, and I bought the cd from him. I still owe him a big thanks for that one!
The release we are talking about here is an instrumental version of the In Your Honor album. Instrumental album versions are handed out, on request, to radio stations or tv stations, when they want to use them for other purposes. So if they are out there, there are not many. To this day, I haven’t seen another copy of this one, let alone an instrumental version of one of their other albums.
The tracklisting is a bit odd, because a couple of tracks are missing from the second, acoustic, cd. The tracklisting as on this release is as follows:
CD1
1 In Your Honor
2 No Way Back
3 Best Of You
4 DOA
5 Hell
6 The Last Song
7 Free Me
8 Resolve
9 The Deepest Blues Are Back
10 End Over End
CD2
1 Still
2 What If I Do
3 Miracle
4 Another Round
5 Over And Out
6 On The Mend
7 Virginia Moon
8 Cold Day In The Sun
So on disc two the tracks Friend Of A Friend and Razor are missing. Why this is the case I don’t know. Also the track Resolve is highlighted with a yellow marker. Maybe because this was the actual single at the time, who knows.
Anyway, this one is one of the gems in my Foo collection. A great item because of the instrumental versions, but also because of it’s rarity. To my knowledge, this is one of the few, maybe the only one out there.

Survivor, warrior prince...

Centuries Of Sin
US 7 inch (1/2 Red, 1/2 Black, Manufacturer Fuckup)
Back to one of the finest 7 inch releases I own. This release is one of the rarest Dave Grohl related releases. It’s a special edition of the Centuries of Sin single.
In the great metal tradition, the vinyls pressed for Dave’s Probot project were pressed in several different colours or colour variations. There are different coloured 12” LP releases, and there are 6 different variations on the Centuries of Sin single:
Colour Number of copies pressed
Black UK Unknown Quantity
Black US 6666
Red US           750
Green US   750
Red/Black Swirl US           300
1/2 Red-1/2 Black US     90
So it’s the last version we are discussing here. This is the so called “Special Manufacturer Fuckup” version. The pressing plant made a mistake while changing the colours, so these came out instead of the Red/Black Swirl ones. The decided to keep the mistakes, and sell them as special editions. They even put a special sticker on it, and numbered them for collectors sake (see picture). All the Probot releases were put out by the label Southern Lord. If you like this, check out more of their releases. The label Southern Lord is runned by Scott Weinrich, who also plays guitar on the track The Emerald Law. He also played live with Dave once on the Headbangers Ball show on MTV. They played the track My Tortured Soul there. You can find this track one the Headbangers Ball 2 cd compilation.
Check out the video here:

I own all of the different variations, but the greatest thing is. I own two copies of this ultra rare one. Namely #14 and #45. I first owned number 45, but I got the chance to buy the number 14 later on. All collectors know, the lower the number, the rarer the item.
Well enough bragging, let’s get to the info part.
Tracklist:

I’m called a cow...

For All The Cows
Holland CD Promo
As I’m starting to write this next piece, I just figured out that I’m about to address a Dutch promo again. I just wanted to make out that’s not intentional because I’m Dutch, but that it’s just because I already made the scans for this one, and I really like this artwork.
Promo’s come in all shapes and sizes. But the simple reason I really like this one, is the one I mentioned above. The artwork. It’s the artwork used on the first 12” Exhausted promo release. And is to be considered one of the first real Foo Fighters artwork.
Why they decided to put this artwork on this promo, I don’t know. It’s a bit odd, because as I mentioned this front cover was already used on the 12”, and this certainly wasn’t the first single for the album. Oh well, all in all it doesn’t matter at all, because it still works for me.
I’m talking about the Dutch release here, but an almost exact promo was released in the UK. Bearing the same art as this one.
Well let’s get to the information part, because to so much more is to be said about this release, apart from that it’s a great little tune.
Here’s some release info:

Dead End Friends

Holland CD Promo
Dave has done a lot of cool things outside of the Foo Fighters. I loved him with Queens of the Stone Age (got to see him play live with them 2 times), I loved his drumming on the Killing Joke album. He rocked Nine Inch Nails on With Teeth and produced a hell lot more cool things over the years. Them Crooked Vultures (in my humble opinion at least) are on another level. I was simply blown away when I saw them play live (3 times) and the album swept me off my feet. I love TCV, and let’s hope the guys make another album when they have the chance.
This release is a special promo release from the TCV album, and only got released in The Netherlands. I got to pick this promo up quite soon after the single was out. To this moment I haven’t seen another out there. So as far as I know I’m one of the few people who owns one of these.
I got the TCV virus (it actually sounds like a real virus if you spell it like this) very early on. They had just played their first show in the States, and to my great suprise, they decided to play their second show in Amsterdam (The Melkweg). As soon as I read the news I jumped up and went to stand in line for a ticket (one per person). I got one (see evidence below) and got to witness one of my best shows ever (and I’ve been to quite a few). From that moment on I really caught the TCV bug and went to see them 2 times more. At the Werchter festival in Belgium and once again in Amsterdam at the HMH. Both very cool shows.
For this special occasion. I’ve uploaded the Dead End Friends version from the HMH concert. It was broadcasted on Dutch radio, so the quality is quite good. I hope the link works. It's my first try so let me know if anything is wrong. Please don't mind the little glitch before the song. It's the last piece of the interview that was before the song.
